Yesterday, w3dictionary.com opened to the public. W3 Dictionary provides high quality definitions to several hundred thousand English words. w3dictionary.com uses the online 1913 (mw) Webster’s dictionary and the online WordNet dictionary in order to provide the definitions along with synonyms, antonyms, ‘related words’ or ‘see also’ words, and more.

There is reported to be a thesaurus in the making, as w3thesaurus dot com is owned by the same company and looks as if it is planned for development. The company hasn’t released any information regarding a thesaurus yet.

“There is a huge need for a quick loading, accurate and reliable online dictionary in my opinion,” an employee of W3 Dictionary announced today, “and we believe W3 Dictionary dot com is the answer to that. We provide quick searching features, simple and ‘easy to remember’ web addresses so you can access W3 Dictionary on the go.” He continued, “we believe W3 Dictionary will be a huge success given the correct publicity and chance to prove it’s reliability.”

Being 54 million results for ‘dictionary’ on Google and as many more on the Yahoo Search Engine, we know it’s going to be hard for W3 Dictionary to compete. W3 Dictionary .com is being designed to be ‘user’ and ‘search engine’ friendly.

“We are working on adding more dictionarys to W3 Dictionary, including German dictionary, French dictionary, Spanish dictionary (and several other languages), WWW dictionary (world wide web terms), acronym / acronyms dictionary, computer terms dictionary – similar to WWW, and many more,” Scott Andrews said in an online interview published by a private source.
