iD Tech Camps Announces Next Free Online Tech Workshop

iD Tech Camps

Campbell, CA (PRWEB) August 19, 2011

With August well under way and summer camps across the U.S. drawing to a close, many youth feel summer slipping away. One immune group? iD Tech Camps students. Alumni of the program’s popular computer camp courses have no trouble extending their summer fun into the school year, with the help of free monthly online workshops.

Due to popular demand, the summer education company began offering free online workshops to complement their summer computer courses in the fall of 2009. The workshops have grown into monthly offerings covering the latest in technology, allowing students to stay current with STEM education and explore new tech topics well after summer camp ends. This August, students will be learning the basics of PHP, one of the web’s most common scripting languages.

The free workshops are a natural extension of regular iD summer programs, which include weeklong programs for students ages 7-17 through iD Tech Camps, as well as intensive two-week sessions for teens through iD Teen Academies. The academic summer programs teach students everything from video game design to robotics engineering, digital photography and how to create your own iPhone® apps.

iD Tech Camps CEO Pete Ingram-Cauchi explains that the free workshops are instrumental to the company’s mission to engage students in STEM. “By giving students continual access to STEM education tools, and making sure that those tools are interactive and fun, iD plants the seeds for a real relationship with technology.” Past online workshops have taught engaging subjects like Fusion, Java, Android apps and Flash® animation – all topics designed to inspire students and show them creative applications of STEM.

The newly announced August session will focus exclusively on PHP, one of the most common web scripting languages used today. As in all sessions, a live iD Tech Camps instructor will run the online workshop, starting with an explanation of the topic, leading into a demonstration of the technology, and finishing up with a Q&A session. PHP is usually used in combination with Linux, Apache and MySQL (collectively known as the LAMP stack).

The workshop will take place on August 20th, and is exclusively available for iD students of the current summer season, as well as alumni of the previous season. Participating students must RSVP on the internalDrive.com website to reserve a spot. Or, depending on how you look at it, preserve their summers. A win both ways.
